According to a study, both insufficient security and insufficient supervision on the communication between apps themselves and operating systems are responsible for a bug that than can easily “catch” passwords while being saved into the OS’ keychain. Hackers have now found a way how to use this bug to steal passwords and other data, too.
More than 6 months ago Apple was informed about a small bug in their iOS and Mac OS X operating systems (OS) by analytics of the Indiana University, Beijing University and the Georgia Institute of Technology and until now Apple didn’t really seem to care about it, so Apple now has a huge problem to solve.
After a team of security testers checked 1 612 apps for both Apple operating systems, they concluded that 88,6% of the apps are not able to stop the attack.
So please, go and check the App Store for updates and download the latest versions of your installed apps as they should contain the bug fix 🙂
